What is inside the books?

TSMC songbooks all come with a detailed, age-appropriate script written to add real depth and substance to your production. They include character descriptions of every part, line counts, stage directions, staging ideas and full song lyrics. Both Tom and Clare are working teachers with a wealth of experience in both upper and lower schools and for each book they create additional supplementary material designed to help you to extend your production in to the classroom with plenty of creative curriculum-linked ideas. As you would expect, TSMC songbooks also include sheet music for every song arranged for piano, vocal and guitar.

What type of music score is provided?

TSMC sheet music is arranged for piano, vocal and guitar. It includes the piano arrangement, melodic top-line, vocal harmony-lines and guitar chords.

In what format are the books supplied?

All TSMC books are supplied in an A4 format and are 'thread sealed' for added durability.

What is on one of the CDs?

TSMC believe that both specialists and non-specialists should be able to 'take on the school musical'. All TSMC books come with an accompanying CD that contains professional recordings of all TSMC songs sung by children. Every CD also includes full, professionally recorded backing tracks for you to use if you don't have a musician to accompany your practices or performances.

What is special about musicals and nativities from The School Musicals Company?

First and foremost, TSMC think long and hard about the stories - which ones to choose, what makes them relevant and interesting, and what the performers will enjoy about putting them on.

Everyone gets involved in the creative process. Once TSMC have agreed upon a title that they would like to develop, Tom immerses himself in the script and Matt works to create a set of new songs that will support the narrative in the story.

After TSMC have wrestled with their early ideas, they always have a read through with friends and family. They share out the parts, listen to the songs and have a run through. Right from the start TSMC are honing and revising what they produce so that when you choose to commit to a musical from TSMC, you know that they have done the job of checking that it's really going to work for you. When TSMC create the recordings, they constantly adjust the keys to make sure that the songs are right for young voices. TSMC try to make the lyrics catchy and memorable whilst ensuring they add to the story-telling process.

TSMC love what they do. They put everything into creating a show that can be sent out into the world to help make memories in schools and drama clubs. TSMC's shows are made with love and enthusiasm for the creative arts; they hope that you enjoy performing them as much as they enjoy making them.

Do I need a performance licence?

If you are performing any work involving drama, movement or spoken dialogue then a performance licence is required by law. TSMC performance licences are very straightforward; pay one flat fee and you are permitted to put on as many performances as you like during a twelve-month period. Performance licences are required worldwide and not just in the UK.

If you are using TSMC's music for classroom teaching or for school assemblies where members of the public are not present, you do not need to obtain a licence. Please note that schools should log the use of TSMC's songs for assemblies as required by their CCLI licences.

Do you supply inspection copies?

For copyright reasons, inspection copies are not available. TSMC do try to include as much information on this website as possible, so that you can make an informed decision. TSMC are happy to chat on the telephone or by email if you would like help selecting one of their musicals or songbooks.

Can we alter the music or the script?

You do not need to seek TSMC's permission to adapt their scripts or song lyrics. If you have already purchased a TSMC musical and would like an adaptable Word document of the script, please contact TSMC directly.

Do we need permission to use your backing tracks?

The CD backing tracks may be used in class for teaching purposes or in assemblies. TSMC performance licences allow you to use backing tracks in your productions in front of an audience.

Can we make audio or video recordings of our performances?

The School Musicals Company permits audio and video recordings. The school, drama club or organisation wishing to record the performance for distribution to the public (including parents) must obtain a licence to do so. Please contact TSMC directly on +44 1483 503050 or by emailing [email protected].
