Sing Up Day

Sing Up Day

Find everything you need for Sing Up Day here

Every year since 2010, Sing Up has set aside an extra special day to celebrate the power of song and spread a little singing. This year's Sing Up Day was our thirteenth global singing event.

From the UK to the UAE and Singapore to Spain, schools and singers around the whole world join us each year on Sing Up Day. Every year, we commission a brand-new Sing Up Day anthem with resources and activity ideas to help you integrate the song into your school day, and help put singing at the heart of your school life.

The theme for Sing Up Day 2023 was Global voice and the things that connect us – the earth, the sea, and the air we breathe. This year we have gone a step further than we usually do, and after an open call out to search for a new songwriter to work with, we commissioned two songs from songwriters based in New Zealand and Wales. Read our blog to learn more about our approach.

This year’s songs were:

  • Blossom out by Tomuri Spicer –  a gentle, laid back, and summery celebration of the earth and our connection to the natural world around us. Featuring taonga pūoro (traditional Māori instruments) and snippets of haka (traditional chant in the Māori language) based on whakataukī (Māori proverbs), Tomuri’s clever lyrics encourage us to recognise our individual strengths, gifts, and uniqueness to ‘blossom out like a flower’ and ‘stand strong like a forest’.
  • Dreams across the ocean (Away, roll to sea) by Laura Bradshaw and Joseff Gnagbo – a fresh and modern take on a sea shanty following the journey of a raindrop to the ocean as a metaphor to explore how we are all connected by the bodies of water that cover our planet.

All Sing Up Day materials are free to download because we want the whole world to join in and feel the power of singing on Sing Up Day. Head to our ‘Get involved’ page to join in and add your singing event to our map. Sign up as a free Sing Up Friend and then download the Sing Up Day anthem. Make sure you follow us on Twitter and Facebook, so we can let you know when more resources are available.
