Think about classroom singing. Now think about preparing for the GCSE Music listening paper. Two completely different things? Not necessarily...


With new GCSE specifications starting September 2016, I’m reminded of the fundamental importance of singing in musical development. Sometimes there’s so much focus on assessment that we forget about our students’ developing musicianship. So I’d like to offer some practical ways in which vocal work can help students be confident and intuitive musicians – while also helping them prepare for their GCSE exams.
