Deck Hull City Hall with boughs of holly!

It looks like the terrific reputation of Platinum Award School Swinemoor Primary is spreading, as they have been invited to perform at the prestigious Hull City Hall with East Riding Youth Orchestra and Wind Band this Sunday.

With five choirs (Junior Boys, Senior Boys, the Junior Choir, the Senior Choir and the Chamber Choir) making up of over 75% of the school, it’s not surprising they have been so busy at this tuneful time of year.

Since the school achieved their Platinum Award in the summer, the choirs continue to grow in numbers. Swinemoor’s Music Coordinator, Linda Wilson, told us: “Since becoming a Platinum Award School, the requests keep coming. We have squeezed seven or eight concerts into the last two weeks!”

“The children love singing Christmas songs,” said Linda. “We're singing traditional and modern songs, and a song in latin, In Dulci Jubilo, to stretch them.”

Hull City Hall holds 1,500 people, so it’s going to be a tremendous experience. “The children are so proud to have been asked. We will do a small set of carols and then we are going to be accompanied by the orchestra for John Rutter’s Star Carol. It’s aspirational for them as some already play instruments so it’s great to have a glimpse of what will be possible for them…”

The Christmas concert will start at 4pm, Sunday 11th December, and tickets can be purchased from Hull City Council Box Office.
