ContinYou are Associate Partners of Sing Up.
ContinYou are working with Sing Up to link singing projects into the Extended Schools agenda, ensuring all projects are maximising staff support, resources and funding available to ensure that projects are outcome focused, making a difference and sustainable. They are also responsible for managing the Sing Up Clusters on behalf of Sing Up.
Sing Up Clusters are funded programmes that enable secondary schools to lead on exciting singing projects with their feeder primary schools.
The Sing Up Clusters enable us to meet our key targets of training young singing leaders, support transition from primary to secondary and engage with partners to ensure sustainable singing opportunities for all pupils.
We have so far developed over 15 Sing Up Clusters to date right across England. From Penzance to Thurrock to Middlesbrough via Saffron Walden!
Details of two of our Sing Up Clusters can be found below:
Singing Breakfast Clubs
Middlesbrough
Fancy crunching cornflakes whilst singing carols? How about some tasty toast and tonal exercises? Whatever your taste first thing in the morning, ContinYou and Sing Up would like kids to breakfast then break…into song!
The Sing Up Cluster in Middlesbrough launched singing breakfast clubs. The trial project saw leaders-including school staff and parents-attempt to blow away those sleepy cobwebs first thing in the morning by leading fun filled singing activities.
Singing is a great way to “kick-start” your brain, increasing mental alertness and getting the blood flowing. It is also great fun. You can sing together in groups, in a chorus or sing alone and practice being the next Leona Lewis!
Singing can also help you do better at school. Research shows that our brains develop differently when we sing, helping us to learn better and achieve more in other subject areas.
We are currently developing a fun-filled Learning Resource, “Sing Up Breakfast Clubs” which we will use to enable other breakfast settings to develop their singing opportunities.
Peterborough
Want to be an accountant? Study hard in maths. What to be a scientist? Pay attention in biology. What to be a rock start? Move to Peterborough!
Children who have dreamed of singing in front of hundreds of people will love this exciting new project launched by Sing Up and ContinYou in Peterborough.
The Voyager Media School devised a great project where talented singing coaches and high school students visited local primary schools to get the whole school singing. By giving older children opportunities to lead the younger ones they can become positive role models and send out the message that singing is cool!
Both primary and high school pupils had the opportunity to sing after school at two weekly choirs that rehearsed at the high school. After just a few weeks practice, the Voyager hosted a fantastic concert at their new purpose-built theatre.
The project also offered singing opportunities to local mums and dads and ensured all the teachers received top-quality training so they can continue to offer fun singing opportunities in their schools.
The project was a great success, enabling teenagers, parents, the local community and the local schools to join in, sing together and experience the thrill of performing.
