Faber Music

Faber Music is a phenomenon in British music publishing. It came into being to publish the music of Benjamin Britten, at Britten’s own suggestion. It has received more awards for its sheet-music publisher than any other British Publisher, and has received the MIA ‘Music Publisher of the Year’ award for the last 3 years. Faber Music has a longstanding reputation for the excellence of its educational publications. Probably the most active British music publisher today in this area, it has built up an outstanding list featuring some of the most respected educationalists in their fields including Paul Harris, Lin Marsh, Mike Brewer, Ann Bryant, Pam Wedgwood and Dame Fanny Waterman, and maintains a carefully conceived commissioning programme for new educational publications.

Faber Music’s recognised editorial and production skills have, in recent times, been offered as a service to other parties on a joint venture basis. Joint ventures are currently in place with Trinity Guildhall, Alfred Publishing, the Naxos record label, the Really Useful Group, MPL (Paul McCartney) and Youth Music (for the acclaimed Singbook publications). Faber Music is also the exclusive print publisher for the EMI and Warner Chappell pop catalogues, producing a vast wealth of publications (matching books to new albums, personality folios, imaginative mixed collections: piano, guitar, playalong books with CDs, etc).

Faber Music was appointed as the publishing partner for Youth Music’s Singbook, published in 2005. Faber Music managed all aspects of the publishing process, from the early stages of consultation and commissioning, through briefing, editing and production of the volume (music, text and design) and manufacture of the CDs, contracting/negotiating with all composers, liasing with various consultations to printing, distributing and selling the publication through the world. It continues to provide editorial and marketing consultation, manages reprints and other exploitation of the songs, and licenses the songs in other contexts on behalf of Youth Music.

It has received more awards for its sheet music than any other British music publisher and has received the MIA ‘Music Publisher of the Year award for the last 4 years.
