Jo moved from her native Australia to the UK after graduating with an Honours Degree in Music from the Elder Conservatorium, South Australia, where she also studied Acting. She has worked professionally in the music and entertainment industry for the past 19 years, working on TV shows such as Fame Academy, Comic Relief does Fame Academy, German Pop Idol, Big Brother, Little Britain and the BBC's The One and Only. She has also worked on Terry Gilliam’s next film, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, which stars Heath Ledger & Johnny Depp.
During her career as a composer, musician and singing coach she has worked with artists including Sting, M People, Damage, Shania Twain, Lionel Ritchie, Lemar, Spice Girls and Mel B. She currently trains and directs West End singers.
Jo is the Artistic Director of Jam Theatre Company, a professional theatre & music company set up with her husband Mark Hartley. Jam Theatre is based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
Jo has been directing shows for the past 19 years, and has written 6 musicals, including Dream Street. Her Vocal Workout training CDs are currently sold throughout the world, and her songwriting success has led her to write for TV commercials, as well as Faber Music and the Government’s Sing Up campaign.
Jo's disciplined and honest approach has given her an excellent reputation for being able to get the best out of people. Her passion and drive for excellence is evident in the quality of work she produces.
