Silver

Watch our video to hear from Silver Award school, Oyster Park about their Awards journey.

Schools that have pledged for a Silver Award have been able to:

  • assess their current singing activity
  • begin to explore improving it
  • set realistic and achievable goals
  • aim towards the Gold Award

The current criteria to achieve the Silver Award are:

  • The Headteacher and governors endorse the decision to apply for the Awards, and all staff know the school is applying
  • Singing occurs in every class more than twice a week
  • The whole school sings together at least once a week
  • All staff are being encouraged to get involved in singing
  • At least 2 staff are confident to lead singing
  • Families and visitors can get involved in singing activities
  • Singing supports the School Development Plan and is included in the Self Evaluation Form

Here's what some Silver Schools have said -

"Working towards the Silver Award gave the whole school a general sense of achievement and fun! It has encouraged and developed cross-curricular planning so that music became topic-linked rather than bolt on learning. The feeling of all being together singing is magical!"

"Our Sing Up Award gave our whole staff a common goal to work towards and has really helped develop a singing ethos within the school."

Has anybody else found it impossible to download a copy of the handbook for the Silver Award and if so, how do I go about succeeding?

Mrs Cass

I would like to apply for an award and our school is registered but there have been some staff changes and would like to be added to the list of staff names as I will be the school champion for the sing up award.

I also cannot see how to find out if my school is already signed up (is there a list?) or find where to register. Please advise. Thanks.

Can my Special School apply to do a Silver award? Also, we've a small hall, and can't quite fit all of our students in - would this stop us from applying?

I am interested in working towards our silver award but in such a small school, I'm not sure how achievable that would be?

Mrs Mcateer - we're working on getting more and more KS2 resources up and available for you guys. If you search 'KS2' using the search function on our homepage, you should find loads of teaching tools, resources, warm ups and song bank songs all aimed specifically at KS2. Contact us if you have any further issues!

An excellent resource but could do with a human being to speak to! Can't find a contact number or anyone to help me start this award process rolling.

It just isn't so easy to get Year Six singing in the classroom! They will sing in an assembly when the right songs are chosen, but in the classroom the embarrassement factor kicks in. All the examples I see seem to of KS1.
