ContinYou Clusters
Over the next 6 months Sing Up will be working in partnership with ContinYou to link singing projects into the Extended Schools agenda, ensuring all projects are maximising staff support, resources and funding available to ensure that projects are outcome focussed, making a difference and sustainable.

Through Sing Up, ContinYou is working directly with Clusters of schools developing innovative, singing based Extended Schools provision and working to capture examples of good practice up and down the country.

There are now five Cluster across England. Here are examples of just two cluster projects that will be starting soon. Keep an eye on this page for updates, useful resources and case-studies that will help you infuse your own Extended Schools programme with singing.

Singing Breakfast Clubs
Middlesbrough

Fancy crunching cornflakes whilst singing carols? How about some tasty toast and tonal exercises? Whatever your taste first thing in the morning, ContinYou and Sing Up would like kids to breakfast then break…into song!

Four school clusters in Middlesbrough are about launch new singing breakfast clubs. The trial project will see leaders – including school staff and parents - attempt to blow away those sleepy cobwebs first thing in the morning by leading fun filled singing activities.

Singing is a great way to “kick-start” your brain, increasing mental alertness and getting the blood flowing. It is also great fun. You can sing together in groups, in a chorus or sing alone and practice being the next Leona Lewis!

Singing can also help you to do better at school. Research shows that our brains develop differently when we sing, helping us to learn better and achieve more in other subject areas.

Watch this space for more news on the Middlesbrough breakfast clubs as they get up and running. The project teams will be developing useful resources to help other schools start their own breakfast clubs.

The Voyager Media School Cluster Project

Peterborough
Want to be an accountant? Study hard in maths. Want to be a scientist? Pay attention in biology. Want to be a rock star? Move to Peterborough!

Children who have dreamed of singing in front of hundreds of people will love this exciting new project launched by Sing Up and ContinYou in Peterborough.
The Voyager Media School have devised a great project where talented singing coaches and high school students will visit local primary schools to get the whole school singing. By giving the older children opportunities to lead the younger ones they can become positive role models and send out the message that singing is cool!

Both primary and high school pupils will have the opportunity to sing after school at two weekly choirs that will rehearse at the high school. Once the schools have all had a few weeks to practice, the Voyager will host a fantastic concert at their new purpose-built theatre.

The project will also offer singing opportunities to local mums and dads and ensure all the teachers receive top-quality training so they can continue to offer fun singing opportunities in their schools.

The project promises to be a great success, enabling teenagers, parents, the local community and the local schools to join in, sing together and experience the thrill of performing.
