Southampton

We have three exciting projects!

i-Sing

i-Sing is a project dedicated to getting our 9-14 year-olds singing-particularly boys, who tend to be less engaged with singing at this age.

We will be running workshops for all upper primary age boys to help to show them how cool singing can be, giving pupils the opportunities to move on into a free city-wide singing group. We will also be working with sports teams in three of our secondary schools to compose team songs, and creating a schools CD. This work will develop into Year 7-9 vocal workshops in these schools, using our sports team singers as role models.

Bevois to Bollywood

Bevois to Bollywood is running weekly workshops in Bollywood, teaching singing techniques to pupils and parents/carers in two primary schools in the Bevois and Bargate areas of the city, working in partnership with the acclaimed Art Asia in the city.

Children and parents will be able to put their new found skills to good use in a performance at the 2008 Mela.

Everyone Sing

Everyone Sing is a cross-generational project which is building links between primary schools and local sheltered housing and old people's homes, building on the great work already done by the Silver Song.

We are working in three primary schools partnered with sheltered housing centres in the west, centre and east of the city. Through fortnightly sessions in both the schools and with the OAP's, children will be able to build friendships with OAP's in their local community and the two groups will share songs and stories.

As well as these specific projects, we will be continuing to work with children of all ages and in all areas of the city to make sure that Southampton is the place to be singing!

If you would like any more information about Sing Up Southampton or would particularly like to be involved with any of the projects, as a pupil, parents, singing leader, community musician or in any other way, please contact Christina Ward, or call 02380 834451
