Sing Up Cumbria is delivered by SoundWave in partnership with Extended Services and LS Music.

 

The Sing Up Cumbria project is happening in three Extended Services clusters of schools around Cumbria, one in each Extended Services area of the county: Allerdale & Carlisle, Copeland & Eden, and Barrow & South Lakes.

 

The overall aims of the project are:

 

• Establish sustained singing activity in Extended Services clusters of schools in three of the six districts of Cumbria
• Develop a resource pack of material created through the project for wider dissemination
• Raise the profile of singing as accessible and enjoyable for all
• Raise awareness of the health benefits of singing

 

Each of the cluster residencies is developing its own programme of activities, and all of the clusters will be united through common training, workshop and performance opportunities.

SoundWave have contracted three vocal leaders to work within the identified clusters of Wigton, Penrith/Rural Penrith and The Islands (Walney and Barrow). There will be at least two large-scale performances within each of the clusters.

The final celebration Songlines-Singing Coast to Coast is planned in collaboration with Sing Up Dales. This is a two week series of performances scheduled for June/July 2009 involving singing journeys, which will thread together performance events at each of the Sing Up Communities centres from the West to the East coasts.
