Coventry

We have chosen to work in the Willenhall/Binley/Ernesford and Stoke Aldermoor areas in the south east of the City, and Edgwick, Little Heath, and Upper Foleshill areas in the central north areas of the City. This involves 20 Primary schools and two secondary Community Colleges.

The Performing Arts Service's administrative base has recently moved into Willenhall and this presents a good opportunity to make a contribution to the community via singing development.

The venue for Sing Up Coventry's first performance in July will be a church in the Stoke Aldermoor area, for a musical with an African story led by a truly inspirational Vicar from Zimbabwe. Performed by an established group of primary-aged singers, we hope to gather interest from potential new young Sing Up members in the area.

We also look forward to a massed group performance at the Willenhall Festival on the first day of the holiday. It is hoped that this will also encourage children to join in holiday sessions, which are running in several venues in partnership with the Willenhall schoolls cluster group.

In the north of the city there is a well established Asian community and in order to involve these youngesters in long term musical activities we anticipate our partners, Sampad, leading the way. Workshops in the summer linked to the schools cluster group activities will offer opportunities to get involved, and participants will be encouraged and supported to continue in after school clubs at their schools. Bringing in high profile Asian artists over the course of the project will additionally stimulate and inspire the young people in finding their voices.

Plans are also underway to host the African Children's Choice in Autumn of 2009.
