I agree with Ms Phillips. Christmas is mentioned plenty of times and I think Sing Up have done a good job making it relevant for those of us who don't celebrate Christmas as well as those who do. Most of the children I teach don't celebrate Christmas. They also cover Chanukah, which is in December so I think they have done a pretty good job! Merry festivities!

Re Ms Philips... You make some valid points - as regards the changes of the seasons though, I doubt you and your children celebrate the change from Spring to Summer or Winter to Spring in the same way they do the arrival of Winter? The only reason why we have a "Festive Season" is because of Christmas yet the Christmas Story is airbrushed out in favour of all things Festive! The only truly festive activity we have in our school is the Harvest Festival! Back to marking now!

Christmas is mentioned, with Christmas songs and activities included. However we need to move with the times and realise not everyone is religious, people celebrate Christmas in ways that are meaningful to them and we don't all want to be 'celebrating' for weeks beforehand; the adverts in magazines, papers, billboards etc. do that for us. I’d much more prefer to encourage children to celebrate the changes in the seasons by joining in with traditional and new winter songs, activities and recipes which enrich their knowledge and enjoyment of life, and reflects what is going on around them. Festive season covers that well - Christmas is only part of the festive season!

I'm with Mr Ainsworth on this one. There is virtually no mention of Christmas. It's almost like an editorial staff sifted through and removed any reference to the Christmas story. This does not reflect the content of most school's 'seasonal' celebrations I'm afraid.

Nice pack - thanks. I'd just question why it's referred to as being a "festive pack"? Surely you mean Christmas? That's what releasing it now would suggest... If not, why not release it in January or February instead? I think I'll write my festive cards this weekend and put up our festive tree...
