Secondary Singing Handbook: Young Singing Leaders

Useful resources and advice to help young people develop leadership skills.

‘If you want a seven-year-old boy to sing, show him a 17-year-old boy singing.’

If this idea was good enough for Howard Goodall, the National Singing Ambassador from 2007 to 2011, it’s good enough for us!

Not only is it great for young people to use their singing skills to encourage others – their peers or younger children – to sing, but it also has great benefits in improving their own singing.

Sing Up has been investing in programmes to encourage and develop Young Singing Leaders, check out lots of useful resources and advice on the website.

Here are a few to get you started:

  • Lead on - Singing Leader and trainer Sharon Durant shares her advice for leading singing.

  • Down with the kids - Sarah Wall of Sing Up Cumbria tells us about her work with Young Leaders.
