Helen MacGregor

After training at Goldsmiths’ College, Helen worked for many years as a music specialist teacher, sang with the London Bach Society and was an education consultant to the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Publications include the Listening to music series and award-winning Music Express. She writes songs for children and has worked with Stephen Chadwick on three Roald Dahl Revolting Rhyme musicals and the Singing French series. Her latest songbook is Tam Tam Tambalay - a collection from different cultures.

She is Primary Music Adviser for Kent, where she trains teachers and regularly leads singing festivals for schools. She recently co-presented a schools’ event at the 2007 Cheltenham Literature festival. She is currently working with the Royal Opera House to launch their ‘Voices of the Future’ singing project.

Stephen Chadwick

Stephen Chadwick is a composer with a broad interest in music — equally at home writing orchestral, world or electronic music. Commissions from the London Philharmonic Orchestra include Cotopaxi, for panpipes and orchestra. Stephen also writes theme and incidental music for schools TV programmes, including Numbertime, Words and Pictures and GCSE Bitesize. In April 1999 he received a Royal Television Society Award for his work on the BBC’s Professor Allegro’s World of Music, Music Maker series. Other awards include a BAFTA for C4s Grid Club Music Studio website. Recently he completed work on composing over 30 extracts of music for major Disney animations including Monsters Inc. and Jungle Book.

Stephen has worked extensively in all sectors of music education as a teacher of creative music-making and co-written many educational resources, including Three Rapping Rats (winner of the Times Ed. Music Book of the Year Award, 1999), Music Express (winner of the Education Resources Award, 2003), Roald Dahl’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Roald Dahl’s Goldilocks (featured on Teacher’s TV), all published by A&C Black. Forthcoming publications with A & C Black include Roald Dahl’s Cinderella, a musical for schools, and Developing Music Skills, activities for teaching general musicianship in the classroom.
