Song Writer Biography

Eileen Diamond

Eileen Diamond (1931–2007) trained at the Royal College of Music and for many years divided her time between writing and working as a freelance music consultant for primary education. She taught and entertained a great number of children, including those with special needs, and visited schools, hospitals and homes to extend the joy of spontaneous musical participation, which her songs encourage. Her catchy songs and tuneful style of writing have an instant appeal from Pre-school through to Key Stage 2. Encouraging listening as well as active participation, her work is both entertaining and educational and includes songs, rounds, percussion accompaniments and musical plays. For eight years Eileen presented a series of Sunday afternoon concerts entitled ‘Act One Sing Too’ for children in the Purcell Room at the South Bank Centre in London. She also appeared at the Polka Children’s Theatre, Wimbledon and the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds and in 1990 conducted over a thousand primary children singing a medley of her songs at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Her work also took her further afield, including to a refugee camp in Hong Kong and a series of workshops for teachers in Australia.
