Following his formative years as a chorister in Rochester Cathedral Choir and then as a music and choral scholar at Tonbridge School, Jim Clements continued his musical education at Manchester University, where he studied percussion and composition. It was here that he began arranging music for vocal ensembles, and exploring the kaleidoscopic world of orchestration.
After graduating with a first-class degree in music, Jim moved first to Worcester, then to London, singing in church and chamber choirs, and forging a career as an arranger and composer. He has since written a cappella arrangements for groups including The King's Singers and Voces8, and orchestrated for artists as diverse as the RLPO, Tom Jones, the BBC, and Tim Minchin. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority of his original compositions are choral, either written for choirs in which he has sung, or commissioned for special occasions.
Jim continues to sing, principally as a member of Stile Antico, and also with The Dmitri Ensemble, Ex Cathedra, The Cambridge Singers, Philharmonia Voices, and in various London cathedrals and churches. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the British countryside on his motorbike.
