Jan Faulkner is a musician and educator. After many years as a professional symphonic percussionist she now specialises in teaching and in leading workshops for musicians of all ages and abilities.
She provides INSET training for Music Services and has been guest speaker at a number of percussion conferences in the UK. She is a board member of the UK Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and a committee member of the National Association of Percussion Teachers. She is a panel member for the Trinity Guildhall practical examinations and helped develop their timpani, snare drum and tuned percussion syllabuses, including writing much of the new music.
She has been a member of the percussion teaching staff of Wells Cathedral School since 1996. In September 2003 she was appointed their first Outreach Officer, responsible for building sustainable links with schools and the local community generally. During this time she has written resource packs of songs and activities that link music into the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2.
Jan lives with her husband in Dorset and writes music for a wide range of instruments, specialising in short, accessible and enjoyable pieces designed to inspire young musicians.
