Song Writer Biography

Carol Ann Duffy

Carol Ann Duffy was born on 23 December. Her collections include Mean Time, The World’s Wife, and Rapture. Her work has received every major poetry prize, including the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2005. She has been awarded the OBE and the CBE for services to poetry and is currently Creative Director of the Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University. Carol Ann was appointed Poet Laureate in 2009.

Sasha Johnson Manning

Sasha Johnson Manning studied singing, cello and piano at the Royal Academy of Music. She began composing at the age of seven when her mother showed her how to notate the tunes in her head. She has written many well-loved anthems, carols and songs and was the composer-in-residence for the St Louis Chamber Chorus in Missouri for eight years. She has composed for Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, Holly Marland, John Turner and the London Baroque.

The Manchester Carols

Written in Manchester in 2007 and first performed by children from several Manchester schools at The Royal Northern College of Music, these carols celebrate a child\'s birth and what that child became: a man who lived by a humble, selfless creed, marginalised in a society where life was fraught with political tensions. These carols are for everybody and are available in both SSAA and SATB formats.
