Watch our video to hear from Platinum Award school, Archbishop Sumner about their Awards journey.
Platinum Awards are by application and nomination only and are for schools who:
- Are willing to act as ambassadors for Sing Up
- Have exceptional singing achievements
- Have achieved at least a Gold Award
- Sustain their efforts and practice across the four Gold Award areas
The current criteria to achieve the Platinum Award are:
- The Headteacher and governors champion and join in singing as a key part of school life
- All staff and pupils enjoy and achieve excellence through singing
- Pupils enjoy singing over a sustained period of their school life
- Pupils and staff experience singing beyond their school environment
- The school builds links through singing between school, home and the wider community
- The school is willing to support other schools to achieve a Sing Up Award
- An external verifier confirms the school’s quality and range of singing
Here’s what some Platinum schools have said -
“Achieving the Sing Up Platinum Award was a great recognition of the hard work the whole school has put in from the parents right out into the wider community. It gives us a great sense of ownership.”
Rachel Prior, Headteacher Spaldwick Community.

Having just achieved the Gold Award, and being enthused to organize a singing concert around the time of National Sing Up Day in February at a local little theatre for seven local schools, I now feel the Platinum Award is within our capabilities. What has been fantastic is how SIng Up has brought about many amazing inclusive opportunities, special schools working with primary schools, children singing together, learning sign language and loving learning new and varied songs.
I can't wait till the concert in February. We will have children from 2 special schools from SLD, MLD, ASD, enjoying singing with children from 5 primary schools. I can only imagine what sound we will create. We are going to try to get BBC Radio Lancashire there as well as the local press.
What better way than singing to bring people together and break down the barriers of prejudice and misunderstanding of issues such as learning disability. If you would like a chat about what we have done at Red Marsh School, please contact me. Ian Squire: i.squire@redmarsh.lancs.sch.uk
Very best wishes for your Sing Up journey!
