“It’s the ideal time to bring together all of the good practice around school and is fully inclusive of everyone!” says Teacher Martyn Soulsby.

Every year for National Sing Up Day an Otis Lookalike competition is held at North Lakes School and the children work with grandparents, aunties, uncles, sisters and neighbours to produce excellent Otis-alikes using the fabulous Otis sewing pattern! Lennox a Year 6 Singing Leader explains, “We start every lesson with a song, since before half term we have been busy designing and making our ‘Otis Toys’ lookalikes in the style of famous singers or characters from a book.”
This year North Lakes is holding a Sponsored Sing up Shush Up! to raise money for school funds and their Sing Up Membership. “Although everyone loves to hear our children perform and sing, many people are so willing to sponsor them to be quiet too - it’s surprising how much people will pay!” says Martyn.
Molly, a Year 5 Singing Leader says, “I like National Sing Up Day because my favourite hobby is to sing, and I really love being a part of the celebrations at North Lakes – I’m raising lots of money for our Sing Up Shush Up! for our school funds".
Training for all
Due to the success of their sessions the previous two years, North lakes will also be holding a Singing Training event for teachers. Martyn tells us “the event is so popular that many schools use this as their staff meeting and bring their whole staff along. Our providers are inspirational and very in tune with what we do in our schools.”
These popular training days have become annual events and together with some great music networks in the area, these training days are useful and inspiring for staff from all around the area to join together and have a go.
