Trafalgar Infants ain’t square!

National Sing Up Day is a Platinum one at Trafalgar Infant School

Trafalgar Infants ain’t square!

Although being their 3rd National Sing Up Day celebration, this year is extra special for Trafalgar Infant School in Twickenham as it is their first as a Platinum school!

The children are very much looking forward to it; their music teacher Jane Burton tells us more…

This year Trafalgar Infants are holding a special assembly to showcase all aspects of singing at their school. “Our Reception and KS1 children are currently voting for the song they would like to sing using our Managed Learning Environment (MLE),” Jane tells us. “Providing the opportunity for the children to vote is essential as it gives them a voice. Plus we have so many favourite songs, it’s hard to choose!”

‘I love National Sing Up Day because we get to sing all of our favourite songs’ (Emily)

‘I really like National Sing Up Day as everybody gets to sing together. I love singing it makes me happy’ (Ava)

It’s not just the children who are excited! It was after their performance at last year’s National Sing Up Day that the staff decided to set up their own staff choir. “This year we will be singing a two-part a cappella arrangement of Siyahamba. The Children’s choir will be singing Bright Blue Sky.”

“The main difference this year is that we have invited other schools to join us and are hoping that Twickenham Academy Boys’ choir will perform. The boys visited us in the autumn term last year and staged a special workshop for our boys to highlight just how cool singing can be.”

‘It’s really fun and I just love singing’ (Sam)

As has become the norm at Trafalgar Infant School, they've extended the invitation to parents and carers. “Families enjoy the celebration and we will end our assembly with everyone singing Walking on Sunshine. The parents are able to access this song at home using our MLE and are always happy to practise prior to any school event. We feel that involving families in celebrations such as this is vitally important to the children.”

‘I like it when we sing with all the teachers and the mummies and daddies. I love practising the songs on my computer’ (Josie)
