It was a musical extravaganza last week in north London as schools in Barnet celebrated Barnet Infant Music Festival. Primary schools from all over the borough came together to celebrate music and do a little singing of their own.
Sing Up was lucky enough to be invited to the festival at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, where pupils from Independent Jewish Day School, St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, Rosh Pinah Primary School and Grimsdell Mill Hill School gathered together to perform songs they have all been working on over the last few weeks.
The morning started with a bang as all five schools joined together for calypso classic Bassez Down, led by Debbie Goldman from Barnet Music Service. Each school then treated us to a special performance of the pieces they’d been practicing.
There was a diverse range of songs, from Rosh Pinah’s beautiful rendition of traditional Hebrew song Col Ha’olam Kulo (All the World is a Narrow Bridge) to St Vincent’s lively I’m Being Eaten by a Boa Constrictor. We ended the festival with a splash-tastic sing-a-long to Sing Up favourite Jellyfish, complete with tentacle-like dance moves!
Grimsdell Mill Hill’s Awards Champion Chao Teng told us: “The Barnet Infant Music Festival is a great opportunity for our children to share singing with other kids and bring the whole community together. The children automatically show their confidence when they sing, and always perform with a smile which is fantastic to see. You do not have to have a super pitch and voice. The most important thing is that you enjoy singing.”
