After four years of an enormously successful national singing programme, we want to open the history book of Sing Up 'Chapter One' to you, by publishing our Final Reportal online. This report contains a veritable goldmine of information about practically every aspect of Sing Up since its inception, and celebrates all of our wonderful achievements to date - none of which could have been possible without YOU!
To mark this momentous occasion, a word from our Director (who appears to have swallowed Lincoln's Gettysburg address!):
"Four years ago, we launched a national singing programme – Sing Up; conceived as a powerful educational driver, and dedicated to the proposition that all children should have access to high quality singing opportunities every day.
Now we are engaged in the continuation of Sing Up’s legacy – testing whether this programme, or any new conception of it – can remain to support our music and education sectors. We are in the transition phase of that future.
We have dedicated a portion of the 2007-11 programme’s achievements as a Final Reportal, recognising all those who contributed so much that this programme might flourish in our schools and communities.
But, in a larger sense, the Sing Up Consortium alone (AMV-BBDO, Faber Music, The Sage Gateshead and Youth Music) cannot dedicate, or celebrate, or claim all credit over Sing Up.
Teachers, headteachers, vocal tutors, trainers, project managers and staff – these dedicated people have achieved it, far above our power to add or detract. The nation may little note, nor long remember, what we say, but it can never forget what they did.
It is for us, rather, to be dedicated to the unfinished work which all who have worked on Sing Up have advanced. It is for us to be dedicated to the great task remaining before us: that from the success of Sing Up 2007-11 we secure a legacy worthy of this collective achievement; that we resolve this nation shall build from this new birth of musical freedom, and that this culture of singing shall never again disappear from the lives of our children and their schools and communities."
Baz Chapman, Sing Up Programme Director
