In order to mark the 75th Anniversary of Sharmans Cross Junior School, the year 4 pupils at the school will be the first pupils to put on a performance in their newly refurbished hall.
This will be no ordinary performance, however, the children will be performing an opera that they have written themselves from scratch!
In partnership with the Royal Opera House, the children are following the Write an Opera course. They have been given complete responsibility for writing the libretto: composing the music, designing the set, costumes and lighting, marketing and performing their opera.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 15th March, Richard Taylor, Composer for the Royal Opera House, visited the school to work with the children and share his knowledge about composition.
Opera singer/Workshop leader, Cressida Van Gorden, said: 'It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to work alongside someone of this calibre.'
In April, Nick Peel, Lighting technician for the Royal Opera House, also visited the school to share his expertise with the children.
These brilliant budding young composers/singers filled their new hall with the beautiful sounds of the opera they had created in performances on the 9th and 10th of May.
Happy 75th Anniversary, Sharmans Cross!
