Howard Goodall stands down as National Singing Ambassador

Endings and beginnings

After four years as the National Singing Ambassador, Howard Goodall stepped down from this role on the 31st March 2011.  His increasingly busy day job has meant that he has had limited time to give to this honorary role, and now that there is a nation of primary schools engaged with Sing Up and understanding the value of singing, he felt that as Sing Up moves into the next phase of its development this might be a good time to stand down.

Making this announcement Howard said:

"I was honoured to have been asked to become the National Singing Ambassador and have thoroughly enjoyed the role. It has enabled me to speak on platforms and to broadcast my passionate belief that singing is a vital part of a child’s educational entitlement and social and personal development. Sing Up has achieved so much and I know I could not have held my honorary role without them. Indeed such has been the success of this programme that I truly believe that there is no longer a need for a National Singing Ambassador, as we now have so many Ambassadors across the country who can champion the cause. I am leaving the programme in very safe hands."

In response to this news, Sing Up’s Programme Director, Baz Chapman noted:

"It has been a real pleasure to work with Howard over the past four years. I know I speak for the entire Sing Up family when I say that we would not have been able to achieve so much without his enthusiasm and support. We know that he will continue to be a real advocate for singing and yet we also agree that we now have a network of singing ambassadors across the nation who will help us to keep singing at the centre of primary school life."
