The Chorister Outreach Programme (COP) and Sing Up celebrated their partnership yesterday with a special event in Birmingham.
Taking place in the Birmingham Town Hall, many high-profile speakers were in attendance, including: National Music Participation Director Richard Hallam MBE, Professor Graham Welch from the Institute of Education who spoke on the Sing Up/ COP evaluation, Phillip Spedding from Arts and Business, and the Rev’d Michael Tavinor, Dean of Hereford.
Children from Lichfield COP and cathedral choristers helped to launch a new Latin anthem, Laudate Dominium, by popular composer Ronald Corp. They were given an inspirational workshop on the song by Ronald which was then followed by singing entertainment from the children.
The song is featured in Sing Up’s Sing a New Song resource and includes a pronunciation guide. The resource is aimed at children’s choirs wishing to take on a challenging repertoire written specifically for young voices.
COP Programme Manager Jane Capon said of the event: “It was great to welcome delegates from COP, Sing Up and music services to what proved a very successful day. It looks like chorister outeach is here to stay!”
