Singing the rhythms of life

African artists Sing Up with 300 school children in Wiltshire

Singing the rhythms of life

Children from all over Wiltshire have recently teamed up with musicians from Africa as part of Sing Up and the WOMAD Foundation's Singing the Rhythms of Life.

The singing celebration – held at the Wiltshire Music Centre on the 17th February – was the culmination of a four-month project involving the WOMAD Foundation and Sing Up.

The project has brought together a remarkable group of artists from six different countries in Africa, to work with 10 primary schools in Wiltshire and South Gloucester. These artists included some of Africa’s biggest stars such as the likes of Uganda’s Seby Netage, Serge Ngando-Mpondo from Cameroon and Zimbabwe’s Siyaya who led workshops in the schools teaching young students songs, rhythms, lullabies and games from across the African continent.

The project and final event was a hugely rewarding experience for all involved, inspiring and exciting school communities as well as broadening and enriching the children’s personal repertoire of songs.

Learn more about the WOMAD Foundation or perhaps try out one of our African-inspired songs.
