Four new Platinum Award Schools!

Sing Up would like to congratulate the four schools which have achieved the Platinum Award this term.

Four new Platinum Award Schools!

These four schools join the 26 other Platinum Award Schools throughout the country acting as advocates for singing and ambassadors for singing.

Burwell Village College is the first school to have progressed through all 3 stages of the Awards, achieving the Silver Award in March 2009 and the Gold Award in July 2009. Frankie Williams, who endorsed Burwell Village College’s Platinum Award, said of the school, "The Music coordinator encourages 100% participation in singing and she is supported well by the Headteacher, all staff, governors and the community. All pupils enjoy their opportunities to sing and groups are encouraged to add movement. This Platinum Award will allow the school to spread their enthusiasm and commitment further."

Corringham CE Primary has a strong staff choir which sings regularly for and with the children. Kate Witney of Lincolnshire Music Service who endorsed the Award said that staff fostered an ethos in which singing is a natural and worthwhile activity and this gives the children the positive message that singing is to be enjoyed throughout one's life.

St Mary's Catholic Primary School is already collaborating with local schools and Christine Laughlin, who endorsed the school's Award said that "I know the school will continue to be a Singing School and will be a beacon Sing Up School for other schools in Suffolk."

Temple Primary School fosters young singing leaders throughout the school, even at nursery level and they also have a music link-Governor who encourages communication between staff and the governing body regarding musical activity. Maurice Walsh of Manchester Music Service endorsed the Award and said that “I am completely confident that, having embedded singing so firmly across the school and the curriculum, Temple Primary School will be great ambassadors for singing and Sing Up. Their enthusiasm and commitment is exhilarating.
