On National Sing Up Day there's no better way to 'spread a little singing' than by teaching a whole school your favourite songs!
That's just what a group of disabled children from the National Institute of Conductive Education (NICE) and Great Barr Primary School in Birmingham did today, delivering a singing 'workshop' to the rest of the Great Barr pupils!
The group spent three weeks preparing for the big day with leading music educator Matt Beckenham so that they could become the teacher and demonstrate the warm-up games, songs and movements they had learned to their mainstream peers. The other children picked up the songs and movements really quickly and before long the whole school was singing, including all the teachers. The group even showed the rest of the school how to 'Bungalow'!
NICE and Great Barr Primary School are partners in the Accessing Conductive Education (ACE) project which enables children with movement co-ordination difficulties to develop self esteem, movement, communication and self care skills through active learning programmes.
Wendy Baker from NICE commented: "Since working to acheive our Gold Sing Up Award last Christmas, the children's delight when singing has continued to grow. We wanted to share our enjoyment and new singing techniques with our friends at Great Barr."
They certainly succeeded in sharing the singing, whilst the children of Great Barr school have learned some fantastic new songs!
We have loads of SEN resources, useful for children with a range of disabilities, try some out!
