Park and Stride

Learn how a school in Cornwall got singing out of the classroom and into the walk to school

As you all know, Sing Up strongly encourages singing during school hours, but how about on the way to school? Pupils, teachers and parents at Constantine Primary School, Cornwall certainly think so!

In December, a mass walk and sing event was organised to launch Park and Stride: a scheme which encourages parents and children to make part of their school journey on foot.

Song Bank favourite Pirates! and Here comes Sally were sang, along with popular favourites such as These boots are made for walking.

Everyone at Constantine was delighted at the success of the event. Head teacher, Liz Brand, thinks it’s worked wonders for the scheme. ‘Parents sang along and all the neighbours nearby waved and encouraged us! It was a great opportunity to launch Park and Stride and really encouraged people to join in and enjoy it. The children are already asking when we can do it again!’
