Gold and Platinum Awards Challenge

Find out about some of the exciting events schools have planned for 9th February as part of National Sing Up Day.

Gold and Platinum Awards Challenge

A whole host of schools are going to be spreading a little singing on February 9th, and some of our Gold and Platinum Award schools are planning something extra special!

In October, we launched the Gold and Platinum Awards Challenge, giving schools the chance to apply for funding for ambitious and exciting projects. Our only request was that the plans involved other schools that had yet to benefit fully from all the fanstastic positive effects that singing together can have.

Schools rose to the challenge admirably, and we really enjoyed reading through all the incredibly original and interesting ideas that schools submitted.

Here's just a taster of some of the events. For more, keep an eye on our map and News in the next few weeks.

St Maddern’s and Mousehole Primary Schools in Cornwall are creating an animated film of a Cornish song to be shown on National Sing Up Day, while in Hertfordshire, Bushey and Oxhey Primary School will be putting on a Sign2Sing event along with Bushey Manor Junior School.

Horfield Primary in Bristol have linked up with the UNICEF programme ‘Rights Respecting Schools’, and have commissioned the composer Mike Roberts to compose a song on this theme which they will perform on National Sing Up Day.

St Paul’s Catholic School will lead a singing celebration at the King’s Theatre in Southsea, which will be recorded and broadcast at Guildhall Square in Portsmouth as part of the ‘Big Screen’, designed to promote singing in the city.

In Newcastle, the Ouseburn Young Voices, a choir made up from all seven schools in the Heaton School group and led by Miles Wallis-Clarke, will be visiting schools in the area to raise the profile of singing and highlight its benefits.

If you are planning an event for National Sing Up Day, please add it to our events map – and if not, it's never too late to organise one.

If you're up for a challenge, why not check out our National Sing Up Day Star Challenges. If you collect 50 Stars, you could get an exclusive resource.

You can also get started on an Award, so if you haven't started your journey yet, pledge today.

Join in the celebrations on February 9th by spreading a little singing!
