Moving to secondary school can be a daunting experience for any year 6 pupil. Platinum school, North Lakes in Penrith has come up with a way to make this transition easier – by forming a choir!
The group is made up of 220 children from 11 primary schools and 2 secondary schools in the area. Its aim is to help the pupils to get to know each other before moving on to a new school.
Music co-ordinator Martyn Soulsby is happy with the success so far. 'The sessions take place at on of the secondary schools. It's great to see the children being less apprehensive. They also sound great!'
The choir is led by local musician and composer Jilly Jarman. They will soon be performing at Skelton Agricultural Show and at the local leisure centre to help share their excellent work and raise funds to sustain the project.
