A Sing Up Day visit to St Paul's C of E Primary School

Our Head of Learning joined this school in Newcastle upon Tyne for a whole-school celebration to remember

A Sing Up Day visit to St Paul's C of E Primary School

On Sing Up Day, we like to celebrate by taking a moment to visit local schools to experience the singing and music that people are creating first hand. With the theme of building real connections a key part of this year's Sing Up Day celebrations, our Head of Learning Shelly Ambury was chuffed to receive an invite from a teacher that she had met with recently. Here's her experience of a school who have been working to make a difference through singing.

Sing Up Day at St Paul's C of E Primary School, Newcastle

The story starts at the singing squad network meeting, organised by Music Partnership North (MPN) back in February. The aim: to get a bunch of teachers from across Newcastle and Northumberland to learn the Sing Up Day song One moment, one people (written by local singer-songwriter Beccy Owen) and join in with Sing Up Day. Naomi Purdy from St Paul’s C of E Primary School in Newcastle was one of the teachers who did just that. Starting with her nursery and Reception class she shared the song throughout the school.

Georgina Biddle – Senior Music Specialist for MPN, Newcastle, and I were invited to morning assembly and were treated to an exceptionally joyful whole-school sing. The singers, from nursery to Year 6, teachers and visitors, were all in fine voice and sang their socks off - we left assembly feeling uplifted and united. Big thanks to St Paul’s for opening their doors to us and sharing their singing – it really made Georgina’s  and my day.
