Dear Sing Up...

Searching the Song Bank

I find the new search function on the site a bit overwhelming! There are so many different ways of doing it. Can you break it down a bit for me?

Julia.

Hi Julia, Great news – as the Song Bank is one of the most popular sections of our site, we’ve updated the search facility so users can get the most out of our songs. There are now more functions to the search than the previous site. This might seem a little daunting, but the song search can be broken down into five easy and useful ways to find what you’re looking for:

An image

1 A to Z: All of our songs in alphabetical order.

2 Most Recent: The most popular songs viewed in the last 24 hours.

3 Surprise Me: A list of songs chosen for you at random.

4 Song Title Search: This is good for when you are looking for a particular song.  In the white box, enter any song title, or part of one. This can be done in the Songs section for songs or Voice Box section for warm-ups.

5 Refined Search: On the left-hand side of the results, you can search by key stage, subject, etc. This search will show you how many songs in Songs or Voice Box that we have depending on how many refinements you select. This search finds the best results when you leave the Song Title search field blank.

If you have any further queries, the FAQ section of our site has some advice on getting the most from the Song Bank.

Sing Up magazine

I recently registered and received the current magazine – it’s great! Is there any way I can receive back copies of the magazine? I’d love to read some older articles and listen to some of the previous CDs.

Michael

Hi Michael,

We’re really glad you’re enjoying the magazine. We can no longer send out back issues as we’ve completely run out.

Great news, though – all of the previous issues can be read on the Magazine Area of our website. And all the songs featured in each issue are also available in the Song Bank.

As a registered user you can now also rate our articles as well as save stories and news to your Sing Up favourites. The Magazine Area also has a Bonus section where you can download exclusive teaching resources and extras mentioned throughout the issues.

I need training

I came across your brilliant site by chance and I borrowed a copy of your magazine from a colleague. It came at a rather fortuitous time as I have just been asked to teach some music in my school. I am not a music specialist and have not much experience in teaching music – just have marginally more

experience than the other teachers in my school! We had a specialist teacher who left a couple of years ago, and sadly there has been no music teaching since. I would be very interested to know if you have any training programmes for non-specialist teachers. Thanks.

Leila

Hi Leila,

I’m so glad you’ve found our resources useful. The first thing to do is register as every school can have multiple registrants. Then you can save your favourite songs and articles from the Magazine, News and Success Stories Areas of the website and share them with your colleagues online.

Most of our training is designed to accommodate non-specialist teachers as well as specialists, so you should check out the Training Area online. The workshops will give you lots of ideas and repertoire that you can put into practice straight away. Have a look at the Training Area to book your course. And contact your Area Leader so you can link up with other teachers in your area to share practice. Good luck!
