Beat on the street

When we visited Archbishop Sumner School during their Platinum Award presentation, we chatted with two young singing champions at their school

Beat on the street

Q How often do you sing at school?

Hannah (11): We sing throughout the day, but on Fridays, for me, there’s choir practice, followed by singing assembly.

Jubril (9): Yeah, singing assemblies are the best! The teachers give everyone a chance.

Q What’s your favourite song?

Hannah: Something inside so strong. We often sing it in assembly – it’s inspiring!

Jubril: I like There’s a hero inside. It doesn’t mean there’s a hero inside you trying to get out and fight dragons! It means there’s someone inside who’s brave and strong.

Q How do you feel when you sing?

Hannah: Singing makes me very happy. It gets you through the whole day.

Jubril: It feels amazing! When we all sing, it makes the whole school smile.

Q Where’s the most exciting place you’ve sung?

Jubril: We’re lucky to perform at the Lambeth Music Festival, at the Royal Festival Hall. I’m in the choir this year. It’s exciting!

Hannah: We visited a local care home near Waterloo Station at Christmas. We sang festive songs and they all joined in!
