Welcome!

Is it time for singing yet? Of course it is! And, we want to show you how this can always be your answer!

Yes, singing is fun and it develops memory skills and supports the curriculum, but most importantly it can and does form an integral part of school life. From breakfast clubs to playground games to after-school choirs, teachers everywhere are ‘sprinkling a little singing’ into their school day, and you can too.

It might seem a little daunting at first, but writing your own songs and lyrics is a great way to spice up any activity, from lining up to changing for PE to learning times tables. In this issue, we’ve got features that give advice on how and where to start. Songwriting is also a fun activity to get your pupils involved in, so take some advice from our experts, and get started today!

This term in Round Up, you’ll get an update on our exciting new project starting in late May, the School Trip Singalong, where we’ve worked with seven popular attractions across the country to put together new resources and songs to keep your students engaged on their next outing. Key Stages features family and travel-themed activity plans, and an article about ‘routine songs’ that you can use at any time throughout the day. In addition to eight other great songs and two warm-ups, we’ve got a special tune from Bob Marley, Three little birds, in our Song Bank (as selected by our Facebook Fans),

and a summertime favourite, Let’s twist again, that will get your pupils jiving. There’s a musical playhouse humming in harmony somewhere in Thornton and you can find out all about it in Listen Up. And, finally, Gear Up offers loads of practical advice on how to start and maintain a choir, engage with young leaders from local Secondary Schools, get your Headteacher on board and much more.

It’s summertime, so have a blast! Let us know how it’s going, we love to hear how you’re getting on. Drop us a line at magazine@singup.org.
