The Silver Award

Starting on the journey

Silver enables a school to:

  • Assess current singing activity
  • Begin to explore improving it
  • Set realistic and achievable goals
  • Aim towards the Gold Award

Although no time limit is set on the journey process, it is envisaged that the Silver Award can be achieved within a term even if the school does not already sing regularly.

We have outlined the following criteria to help guide you on your journey towards receiving a Silver Award. Schools aiming for the Silver Award will be asked to provide examples of how they meet the following criteria -

Headteacher

  • The Headteacher and the governors endorse the decision to apply for the awards, and all staff know the school is applying

Pupils

  • Singing occurs in every class more than twice a week
  • The whole school sings together at least once a week

Staff (teaching and non-teaching)

  • All staff are being encouraged to get involved in singing.
  • At least 2 staff are confident to lead singing

Whole school community

  • Families and visitors can get involved in singing activities
  • Singing supports The School Development Plan and is included in the Self Evaluation Form
