Sing Up Seahaven is formed by Glyndebourne, the world-famous opera house in East Sussex. Its 18-month programme encourages and develops whole school singing from reception through to year 6 in six primary schools, building upon an ongoing transition project.
A key project will set up choirs in two secondary schools, Newhaven Tideway School and Peacehaven Community School, working with the community. East Sussex has a rich and thriving folk music scene, and the project works with the choirs, teachers and community to weave local histories into new songs and stories.
Overall, the projects aim to develop models of whole school singing through workshops, after school choirs, staff choirs and showcase events.
The programme inspired a performance at Glyndebourne as part of Glyndebourne’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations. Other showcase performances at Newhaven and Peacehaven will leave a lasting legacy of singing.
