Sing Up Coventry

Sing Up Coventry works in Willenhall, Binley, Ernesford and Stoke Aldermoor in the south east, and Edgwick, Little Heath, and Upper Foleshill in the central north of the city. The programme involves 20 primary schools and two secondary community colleges.

The programmes brings together young people from Asian communities in long-term musical activities working with programme partners Sampad, a south Asian arts group.

Summer workshops linked to the curriculum offer opportunities to take part, and children are encouraged to get involved after school. High-profile Asian artists visit over the course of the project to stimulate and inspire young people’s singing.

The programme produced a musical based on an African story, performed at a church in Stoke Aldermoor. The event was led by an inspirational Zimbabwean vicar, with singing and performances by a group of primary school children.

Coventry City Council’s Performing Arts Service also makes a great contribution to the community through singing development, which also supports Sing Up work.

In Autumn 2009, Sing Up Coventry plans to host the African Children's Choice.
