Beyond The Mainstream

Who is the programme intended to reach?

The Beyond The Mainstream Development Programme is intended to reach children and young people of primary age who have had limited or no singing opportunities before and/or support the training and continuing professional development (CPD) of new and existing singing leaders working with these children. The activity funded will be with those primary age children in non-mainstream schools.

  • with physical or learning disabilities, autism, experiencing trauma;
  • with behavioural difficulties e.g. Pupil Referral Units, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD); and/or those children who may be registered with mainstream schools but who may miss out on singing because;
  • of disruptions in their school lives e.g. looked after children, young carers, young people long stay in hospital, gypsy and traveller children, young refugees and those involved in regular truanting;
  • they don't identify with school-related singing e.g. some older boys , some children from disadvantaged communities.
