FAQs:

  • Q: How do I apply for funding for a choral event I am organising?

A: Awards for All is a good organization to contact. You can also contact your regional officer at the Arts Council England. Your local county Music Service may also be able to help.

  • Q: I subscribed to the magazine, but have received no editions, what do I do?

A: If you are the nominated person at the school and have not received the magazine editions, the first step is to check with your colleagues and the staffroom to ensure the magazine has not already been circulated.

If the magazine cannot be located the next step is to contact us. Select 'Magazine Request' for the subject line. In the body of the email provide your full name, school name or organisation if provided and the confirmation message you are registered to receive the magazine.

You can read all of the articles published in every magazine in the Magazine section of the website, and download all of the CD tracks from the Song Bank.

You can also order back issues from our online store.

  • Q: What evidence can I upload to the Achieve form?

A: You can provide evidence of your school singing in a variety of ways for example:

Photographs, audio clips and short videos of the children singing, documents of Governor’s minutes or class plans, URL address to your schools website etc.

You can upload a number of different document formats and media file types to your Awards profile:

    * Audio files can be in any of the following formats: wma, mp3, wav, au

    * Video files can be in any of the following formats: wmv, mpg, mpeg, avi, mov, wmms, MP4

    * Image files can be in any of the following formats: jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, png, tiff, gz, log, zip, pdf, txt, doc, xls

    * Document files can be in any of the following formats: doc, xls, pub, ppt, pdf, txt, gz, log, zip

Remember that the maximum file size that you can upload is 50MB.

  • Q: Is the funding limited to England?

A: If we had the chance, we would love the whole world to be singing with us... unfortunately our funding is only for England.

There are plans to further develop the musical opportunities for children and young people north of the border through the Creative Scotland Youth Music initiative – particularly in relation to training – in the next few years. Please contact Creative Scotland. Also please contact the Arts Council of Wales, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for queries regarding funding for those regions.

  • Q: Where is the Sing Up Class Wallchart on the website?

A: You can download the Wallchart from your Sing Up Awards profile by logging in and clicking on the speech bubble on the right hand side of the page saying ‘Awards Resources’. Here there are a variety of versions of the Wallchart to choose from, along with a variety of other Awards resources you might find useful.

You can use the Wallchart to show how often singing takes place in each class, filling it in and then using it as evidence in your Achieve form.

  • Q: I cannot upload images of children online, how do I submit evidence for my Sing Up Award?

A: Your Awards profile is a password protected area of the Sing Up website.  When you upload evidence, the only people who can view it are:

    1) other teachers at your school

    2) your selected endorser

    3) the Sing Up Awards team.

While it is good practice to get permission from parents and guardians for any images you take of children, permission is not directly required for you to upload these images to your Awards profile.  If Sing Up wished to use any information or evidence for training or publicity, we would contact your school first.

In certain circumstances, it may be acceptable to use hard copy evidence for your Award.  To do this, you will need to confirm with your endorser that they will accept hard copy evidence.  You can then reference this hard copy evidence using the text option in your Awards profile.  It needs to be clear which sections of the hard copy evidence refer to which Award criteria.

  • Q: Can I contact other schools that are working towards or have achieved an Award?

A: Yes. You are now able to contact other schools that have either achieved or are working towards a Sing Up Award using the Contact Map. You can access the map by going to ‘Your Awards Profile’ and clicking on the ‘Contact Other Schools’ speech bubble on the top right hand side of the page.

This will take you to a map of your local area so that you can see other schools that have achieved or are working towards the Silver, Gold or Platinum Awards. You can also look at other areas too and zoom out to see more of England. To contact a school you can click on the pin and press the ‘Contact School’ link.

Please note: if you don’t want to appear on the map or be contacted by another school then you can uncheck the box at the bottom of the page. This will mean that schools will not be able to contact you.

  • Q: I’ve asked for a password reminder, but it hasn’t arrived!

A: We send a reminder of your password to the email address that is also your username. If it hasn’t arrived into your inbox, it might have gone into your Junk Mail or Spam. It’s worth checking in these folders, or with your IT co-ordinator if you’re at school or work. The subject line should be ‘Your Sing Up password reminder’, so keep an eye out for it.

If your password isn’t in your spam/junk folder, and it hasn’t arrived after a working day since you requested it, please contact us.

  • Q: I'm not sure which role to choose when I register!

A: There are a couple of different types of registration with Sing Up, and the role that you choose determines the types of resources (like downloading songs, or receiving the magazine) which you can receive. Here’s a quick list of which jobs each type of registration is for!

Teacher: Teachers or any staff working in a primary or secondary school in England. This includes Teaching Assistants, HLTAs, SEN helpers, voluntary staff, office staff and any part-time teachers who would like to be the Awards Champion for a primary school. This also includes teachers at BFPO schools.

Organisation: Music organisations can include any extra-curricular organisations that deliver educational sessions or resources, including: hospital schools, drama/music schools, churches and associations who would like to run singing groups (e.g. The Scouts Association).  Pre-schools and nurseries in England should register in this capacity too!

Music Service: Anyone who works directly under the LEA or LA music service, e.g. Surrey Arts, including Wider Opportunity teachers, if applicable. This is also the category for peripatetic or classroom teachers who are employed by a Music Service or Local Authority.

Freelancer: This category is for workshop leaders or practitioners who operate in mainland England, Music Specialists who work in a number of schools, NQTs or other student teachers, and supply teachers.

Parent/Other: If you do not teach children in any capacity, or would like to be a non-teaching supporter of Sing Up and receive regular updates about the programme, this is the category to choose. If you do teach, it is likely that one of the four above categories is better suited to you, so it’s best to contact us to check.

Sing Up is excited to be able to offer non-teachers (parent/other registrants) the ability to register for certain services. Currently you can now access all free resources, including lesson plans, song activities, lyric sheets and basic training information. You are now able to save songs from our Songs and Voice Box section to your favourites. While you are not able to download these songs due to copyright restrictions, you are able to listen to them.

It is really important that you register in the right role, as otherwise you might be able to access what you need in order to teach. Please note that for Freelancers and Organisations, it will take a few days to be able to log on, as each application is verified by our Support Team.

  • Q: How much does it cost to register with Sing Up?

A: Currently the Sing Up website and resources are of no cost to those who register.
